What is the Home Performance Program?
November 2, 2010
As homeowners, we are all interested in how well our house looks, how neat it is, how well decorated, etc. And somewhere in that personal list of ours is another category that many of us don’t think about unless it’s missing. What is that? Well, it all boils down to some of the creature comforts we take for granted: keeping our homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
That’s basically what home performance is all about. It’s not just about efficiency, although that is a major benefit. It’s also about making our home comfortable in every room, on every floor all the time.
In a perfect world no room would be drafty, warmer or cooler than the other rooms, have bad air quality, too much or too little humidity…..it would be perfect, right? Impossible you say? Not anymore. Even in homes which are older, such as the balloon frame Victorian style homes built a hundred years ago we are able to now change the performance or comfort of that home by implementing some proven, modern building science measures such as air sealing the floors, ceiling assemblies, walls and windows. By creating an air tight building assembly and then properly insulating that assembly we can create a close to perfect living environment in your home. This would also entail modifications and changes to the existing heating and cooling equipment that is presently installed and possibly changing out the windows as well.
Sound expensive? Well, for less money than a new kitchen remodel or new landscaping, in many cases you can completely transform the way your home feels.
Our home is our castle, but it doesn’t have to feel like one. In an age where keeping up with the Joneses now means having a 3D flat screen television in every room why not consider “one-upping” your neighbor in another way-not by an exterior remodel, but by completely renovating the comfort level of your home.
So while Mr Jones is peering out his castle wrapped in three layers of clothing because his house is so cold and drafty, he can see you enjoying your home Hawaiian style in the middle of winter: all because of your decision to improve your home’s performance.
Any of this pique your interest? Well the good folks at Bonney Plumbing, Heating and Air are experts at Home Performance. Their friendly, BPI Certified Home Performance Analyst will be happy to conduct an analysis of your home’s comfort performance and develop a plan with you to completely change your cold, damp, drafty castle into a modern wonder of comfort and livability.
