Bonney Asked Seniors, “Will You Be Mine?” for Valentine’s Day

Bonney Plumbing, Electrical, Heating and Air made a heartwarming delivery to area seniors this February 14th. The company reached out to the residents of The Atrium, an assisted living facility in Carmichael, in the form of Valentine’s Day care packages filled with fun gift items. In addition to warm fuzzy socks, sugarless candy, puzzles, face masks in all sorts of colors and hand lotion, the packages included homemade valentines crafted by the employee’s children.

Allison Turner, Marketing and Communication Specialist for Bonney, said it was important for the company to spearhead this effort, especially during the COVID-19 quarantine. “Seniors are isolated and missing out on a lot of social activity. What we’re looking forward to is dropping these care packages off so the seniors can celebrate Valentine’s Day and really feel the love of the community.”

According to Turner, giving back has always been priority for the company and its employees. Whether it’s in support of seniors, food banks, homeless outreach or other programs, Bonney is known for its philanthropy and community engagement in the Sacramento region. 

Best of all, these efforts to help others brings the employees together. “I have always found that community efforts are huge as far as team bonding. We wouldn’t normally be interacting with each other on a day to day basis, do to COVID-19 protocols – for us to be able to build these bags for the seniors at The Atrium is important. It brings us together and provides us with perspective that their there is life beyond work.  We want to bring smiles to the faces of the seniors that we drop off the care packages to. Paying it forward means the world to us.”

Patricia Splinter, the community liaison at The Atrium, said the seniors living in the facility have not had any visitors for close to a year and socialization has been limited with COVID-19 restrictions to keep the residents safe.

 “These Valentines brought tears to their eyes!” said Splinter. “Since, they haven’t had any of their usual holiday activities for so long, these special gifts were more meaningful and the kid’s writing Valentine’s to them brought back happy memories.”

For Bonney, this was a message of love, hope and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
